Bad Ending: Namatame killed (commonly listed as 'The Price of Revenge' / 'Kill Namatame')
badOn 12/3 in the hospital, when the party confronts Taro Namatame and Yosuke asks what to do, choose the option to push Namatame into the TV, then confirm it. The game ends immediately from that scene.
Reported outcome: Nanako dies, Teddie leaves the party permanently, the fog over Inaba never lifts, and the protagonist goes home with the murders unresolved. This is the earliest possible ending in the game.
Golden vs the PS2 original: Present in both vanilla Persona 4 and Golden.
Bad Ending: Namatame handed to the police
badOn 12/3, refuse to push Namatame into the TV but then stop pressing the investigation instead of working through the follow-up dialogue chain. The party turns Namatame over to the authorities and the case is treated as closed.
Namatame confesses to the kidnappings, but the Mayumi Yamano and Saki Konishi deaths remain unsolved. Nanako survives in this branch, Teddie still leaves, and the fog remains.
Golden vs the PS2 original: Present in both vanilla Persona 4 and Golden.
Bad Ending: culprit never identified (commonly listed as 'Investigation Dead End')
badClear the 12/3 hospital dialogue chain correctly so Namatame survives, but then fail the 12/5 accusation scene — either by naming the wrong person or by exhausting the attempts without landing on Tohru Adachi.
The Investigation Team argues without resolving the case. The outcome closely matches the 'handed to the police' branch: kidnappings pinned on Namatame, murders unsolved, fog persists.
Golden vs the PS2 original: Present in both vanilla Persona 4 and Golden.
The Accomplice Ending
badClear the 12/3 hospital chain, correctly identify Tohru Adachi on 12/5, but then choose NOT to tell the rest of the Investigation Team — the option that protects Adachi and keeps his identity secret. The route then plays out to 3/20, where a specific dialogue chain with Adachi finishes it (see criticalChoices).
Ends with the murders permanently unsolved, the fog still over Inaba, and Adachi holding the protagonist's complicity over him. Sources report it maxes the Adachi Social Link and plays a dedicated animated cutscene after the credits. It is classified as a bad ending despite requiring the player to correctly solve the mystery.
Golden vs the PS2 original: GOLDEN-EXCLUSIVE. Multiple sources state the Accomplice Ending did not exist in the 2008 PS2 Persona 4 and was added for Golden. The entire Adachi Social Link that feeds it is also Golden-exclusive.
Normal Ending (also widely called the Good Ending)
goodClear the 12/3 hospital chain, name Adachi on 12/5, tell the party, then clear the Magatsu Inaba dungeon and defeat Adachi and Ameno-sagiri before the December deadline. Reach 3/20 and answer 'Yes' when asked whether to head home and finish packing.
The protagonist says goodbye to his friends and leaves Inaba. The mystery is solved as far as the party knows, but the entity behind the fog is never confronted. Answering 'Yes' on 3/20 closes the game out immediately — there is no way back to the true route from that point in the same playthrough.
Golden vs the PS2 original: Present in both vanilla Persona 4 and Golden. Note the naming is inconsistent across guides
True Ending
trueEverything required for the Normal Ending, then on 3/20 answer 'No' when asked about heading home, and complete the full final-day chain: say goodbye to every maxed Social Link, trigger the Investigation Team reunion at the Junes food court, speak to Dojima and Nanako at the Samegawa flood plain, collect the Orb of Sight from Igor in the Velvet Room, then confront the Moel gas station attendant and exhaust the dialogue. This opens the final dungeon Yomotsu Hirasaka, which must be cleared and its boss (Izanami) defeated the same day.
The fog is lifted permanently and the protagonist leaves Inaba with the case fully resolved. Yomotsu Hirasaka is only accessible on 3/20 — there is no second chance later in the playthrough.
Golden vs the PS2 original: Present in both vanilla Persona 4 and Golden. Golden's version is reached the same way but sits underneath the additional Golden epilogue layer.
Golden Ending (the True Ending plus the Golden epilogue)
goldenMeet every True Ending requirement AND max Marie's Aeon Social Link to Rank 10 before the December story boss (Ameno-sagiri) is defeated. Doing so unlocks the Hollow Forest dungeon during the February ski-trip section, which must be cleared to rescue Marie. Finishing the True Ending on top of that adds an extended epilogue.
Widely treated as the canonical, best ending of Golden. The epilogue is set after the main story (sources describe it as roughly a year on) and resolves Marie's storyline. Note that this is an addition on top of the True Ending, not a replacement for it — the Izanami fight on 3/20 is still required.
Golden vs the PS2 original: GOLDEN-EXCLUSIVE. Marie, her Aeon Social Link, the Hollow Forest dungeon and the epilogue do not exist in the 2008 PS2 Persona 4. The original game's ending set tops out at the True Ending.
