Persona 4 Golden Social Stats — How to Max All Five

Golden has five social stats, each with five named ranks. They are not the same thing as Social Links: stats are the protagonist's personal qualities, raised by how you spend afternoons and evenings, and several Social Links refuse to start at all until the matching stat rank is met. Because the stat gates cluster in the first half of the year and the Social Links they gate have their own deadlines, stat neglect is the most common cause of an unmaxable Social Link.

How books work

The same book title appears under two different stats in the lists above, and that is not an error — most books pay two stats at once. Guide to Pests is Courage and Knowledge; Who Am I? is Knowledge and Diligence; Witch Detective and Picross Rules! are Diligence and Understanding; The Gentle Way, The O-Cha Way, The Punk's Way and The Divine Way are Knowledge and Expression. That makes books the most efficient stat source in the game per time slot, especially the four-chapter ones. One source gives concrete numbers: four-chapter books award roughly 12 points to each of their two stats, two-chapter books 12 to a single stat, with a bad-weather bonus of around 5 on top. What Golden changed

Same five stats, but Golden added new ways to raise them
Both versions use Knowledge, Courage, Diligence, Expression and Understanding with five ranks each. No source suggests Golden renamed or added a stat. Scooter riding for Courage — the scooter is a Golden addition. Gardening for Diligence — gardening is a Golden addition. Playing with the cat outside the Dojima house at night for Expression/Understanding — night exploration while Dojima is out is a Golden addition. Swimming at Shichiri Beach for Courage — the beach is a Golden addition. A vanilla-era stat guide will list none of the four activities above, and will therefore describe a much tighter schedule than Golden actually has. It will also be missing the Aeon and Jester Social Links entirely from any gate table. Point thresholds could not be compared across versions — do not claim Golden retuned them.

Frequently asked questions

Which social stat should I raise first?
Courage and Understanding open the most Social Links early, so they pay back fastest. Knowledge climbs on its own through exams and classes, and Diligence and Expression can be topped up later with books and part-time work.
Can I max all five in one playthrough?
