How fusion works in Persona 4 Golden
Every normal fusion follows three steps. First, the arcana of the two ingredient personas determines the arcana of the result through the fusion chart. Second, the game takes the average of the two ingredients' base levels and adds one. Third, the result is the persona of the target arcana whose base level is closest to that value counting upwards — special-fusion personas are never normal results.
Fusing two personas of the same arcana works in the opposite direction: the result is the next persona of that arcana below the calculated level, skipping the ingredients themselves.
Base levels are fixed per persona and never change with your current level, which is why the calculator can predict every result exactly. Some combinations are invalid — the chart yields no arcana, or no persona of the result arcana is in range.

- How does fusion work in Persona 4 Golden?
- Two personas fuse into a persona of the arcana determined by the fusion chart. The game averages the base levels of both ingredients, adds one, then selects the persona of the result arcana at or above that level. Fusing two personas of the same arcana instead selects the next persona below that level.
- Why is my in-game fusion result different from the calculator?
- Check whether one of the ingredients is a special-fusion-only persona, and whether your compendium differs in base levels (the calculation always uses base levels, not your current levels). Personas locked behind maxed Social Links also appear in results but cannot be fused until the link is complete.
- How do I fuse Izanagi-no-Okami?
- Izanagi-no-Okami is a special fusion unlocked in New Game+ that requires a fixed recipe of twelve specific personas. The full recipe is listed in the special fusions table on this page.
